Q.Which stations offer appointments?
A.Cape May, Salem, and Washington, All other locations provide service on a first come, first serve basis.

Q.Are appointments necessary?
A.We encourage appointments for all inspections and re-inspections. We will service all customers as quickly and efficiently as possible and appointments will be serviced first. "Same Day" appointments may not be made.

Q.Will I be seen exactly at the time of my appointment?
A.Appointments are scheduled based on the average of time it takes to inspect a vehicle. On average 3 vehicles may be inspected in a 15-minute period. Equipment malfunctions, unusual inspections and weather conditions could cause minor delays.

Q.Why do I have to provide personal information to make an appointment for inspection?
A.Phone numbers are collected as a precautionary measure. In the event there is a malfunction at the station causing major service delays, we will attempt to contact you and reschedule your appointment. Email addresses are optional, but without them you will not receive confirmations and reminders regarding your appointment.

Q.When are the inspection stations open?
A.Inspection stations are open Monday through Saturday every week. All stations are open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and 7:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday. All legal holidays are observed as noted at http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Location/LegalHolidays.htm. Inspection stations do not normally close for weather. Q.When do I CANCEL an appointment?
A.Appointments may be canceled anytime prior to the scheduled appointment day. "Day of" appointments may be canceled by using the "CONTACT US" feature or by calling the Customer Service Center at 1-888-NJ-MOTOR. If you want to re-schedule your appointment, please use the "CHANGE" feature rather than the "CANCEL" feature.

Q.When do I CHANGE an appointment?
A.Use the "CHANGE" feature any time you are going to reschedule to another station, date or time. This feature also allows changes to any field containing personal information. To completely cancel an appointment, please use the "CANCEL" feature.

Q.What about motorcycle inspections?
A.Effective August 1, 2010, motorcycles are no longer required to submit for an inspection in New Jersey and display registration decals. Registration decals will no longer be issued. Decals may be removed from license plates.

Q.How do I know if I have a "Heavy Duty" vehicle?
A.Heavy Duty vehicles are defined as vehicles having a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 8,500 pounds or more as noted on the doorjamb of the vehicle. These vehicles include Campers, Motor Homes and Large Trucks. In addition to the GVWR please also note that Stretch Limo's and Trucks with Dual Rear Wheels must also be processed through the Heavy Duty Lane. Please feel free to contact the Customer Service Center at 1-888-NJ-MOTOR (1-888-656-6867) if you would like to verify that the Heavy Duty Lane is operational before proceeding to inspection.
